There's a saying that goes like this..."never meet your heroes."

What does that mean? Well, that usually means that people that have accomplished admirable things; creative types like musicians and artists, or even athletes and public figures, etc- are typically less interesting as personalities that the image you've subconsiously created in your own head. It's akin to peeking behind the curtain of the great and powerful Oz.

Revenge of the Electric Car

Like a sequel to the 2006 documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car?, this film answers some of the rhetoric. Revenge of the Electric Car, released in 2011, follows the journey of four very different entrepeneurs racing to create the winning formula of technology, innovation and marketability to bring electric cars to the masses.

A good friend of ours recently saw this new documentary on the legendary drummer, Ginger Baker, and recommended it to us. And being a long time fan of Blind Faith and Cream, we can't wait to see it.

Check out the trailer for "Beware of Mr. Baker", which opens soon.

Take socially conscious and politically charged lyrics, mix in surreal comic relief, surround it with great beats and samples, add a great logo and you get a lethal combo that remains unrivaled. One of the greatest hip hop groups of all time, Public Enemy, and their 1989 single, Fight The Power. It was the perfect anthem for Spike Lee's unforgettable film about racism and stereotypes- Do The Right Thing.

A classic from post-punk pioneers, Gang of FourTo Hell with Poverty. Shot live in 1981 on the Old Grey Whistle Test, this is one of our favorite singles from the English quartet. If you're not familiar with Gang of Four, we highly recommend starting with their debut release Entertainment!

Good, good stuff.

Diamond Jubilee: God Save The Queen

The United Kingdon is celebrating the Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee this week in London. Plenty of public pomp and circumstances are scheduled to mark the Queen's 60th year on the royal throne. The occassion is a great excuse for us to play the seminal Sex Pistols classic, God Save The Queen, released (and subsequently banned) during the Queen's Silver Jubliee in 1977.

One of our favorite bands to (partially) emerge from the Seattle music scene in the late 80's/early 90's, and one that, for us, defined the Grunge sound, is Mudhoney. They're not as well known as some of the other bands that launched from the Pacific Northwest, but perhaps that is for the better.
